Wonky, misshapen carrots, the same sweet flavor and nutrition as the pretty ones, without the looks or the price. Grown for the juicer, the blender, and the pot.

These overwintered in the ground through the cold and were pulled this spring. A winter in cold soil turns a carrot's starch to sugar, so these are sweeter than anything harvested in summer. I've kept them cold since, so they're firm and ready to work.

Good for: juicing, smoothies, roasting, soup stock, shredding into slaw, or handing a kid a raw carrot.

Carrots are roots, so they hold. Keep them in the fridge with the tops off, and they'll stay firm for weeks.
